If you want to reduce noise levels in the workplace, desk dividers are the ideal choice! Desk dividers help you create a quieter working environment. In addition to providing visual privacy, they also absorb direct sound. What is direct sound? In addition to optimal reverberation time, reducing direct sound is the most important criterion for good room acoustics. Imagine that employees A and B are sitting opposite each other at a double workstation. Employee A is on the phone with a customer. This creates noise. The sound waves generated in this process now reach employee B if you do not place an effective sound absorber as a barrier. This is exactly what direct sound is – and the effective sound absorber in the form of a desk partition is the solution.

How to avoid noise in the workplace

You can improve your room acoustics by reducing direct sound and creating an optimal reverberation time of 0.5 to 0.8 seconds in the office space. Partitions and desk partitions are particularly suitable for absorbing direct sound. They serve as a barrier and ensure that the sound pressure level of the noise sources is reduced. This means that the person at their workplace can still hear the noises, but they are muffled. The benefit is a quieter and more pleasant working environment.

Why are acoustic desk dividers so important?

Acoustic desk dividers have three key advantages:

  • They absorb sound where it is generated, namely directly at the workplace where people are sitting.
  • Due to their smaller size, they are usually less expensive than a free-standing partition.
  • With height-adjustable desks, they follow the height of the desk. This means they are always optimally positioned and offer ideal privacy and maximum absorption area.

What should you look for when buying desk partitions?

When buying desk partitions, always opt for a partition that is exactly the same width as your desk, if possible. Desk partitions are available in widths of 1,200, 1,400, 1,600, and 2,000 millimeters. This is important because sound spreads in all directions like a ball. If you use a partition that is too small, the sound can still spread throughout the room to the left and right of the partition. With a wide partition, you can "catch" as much sound as possible. Desks are often positioned perpendicular to a wall. Make sure that the partition wall is flush with the wall. Otherwise, the sound can be reflected by the wall.

In addition to the optimal width, the height of the partition wall is also crucial. Our partitions always have an active privacy and sound absorption height of 530 millimeters. This corresponds to a free-standing partition of 1,300 millimeters. With our MODUS desk partition, you get the best sound absorption coefficient in combination with height adjustment. This allows you to adjust the privacy screen and absorption area even more flexibly.
